Information about federal student aid is free and is available from a variety of easily accessible, and reputable sources. Students should also be aware that there is no fee to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
www.finaid.org - FinAid was established in the fall of 1994 as a public service that provides a comprehensive source for student financial aid information.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. , Inc., Beta Lambda Education Institute Scholarship - The Scholarship Advisory Committee of the Beta Lambda Education Institute is now accepting applications from male, graduating high school seniors that plan to attend a college or university in the fall. The application deadline is May 1, 2012.
Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) - "is based in Washington, DC, and is the country’s largest non profit organization devoted solely to providing scholarships for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. Since its formation in 2003, APIASF has distributed more than $730,000 in one-time scholarships to high school students in the United States, the Freely Associated States and the U.S. Territories who are entering college for the first time. APIASF also is the administrator of the Gates Millennium Scholars/APIA, which provides outstanding low-income Asian and Pacific Islander American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose. Supporters of APIASF include members of the general public and a wide spectrum of community and professional leaders, organizations and corporations."
Black Community Scholarship Fund - "This fund was established by the Black Community Fund Board of Directors to provide scholarship support to African-American students from the Greater Kansas City area seeking educational advancement through a college or university degree or accredited certificate program in areas and fields determined by the Black Community Fund Board of Directors." Deadline: April 11, 2012.
Black Achievers Society Scholarship - The Black Achievers Society of Greater Kansas City, a non-profit organization, is proud to announce the organization's continued success in awarding scholarships for over 17 years to African American high school seniors in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. To apply for the $1,000 scholarship you must be an African American senior with a 3.4 higher grade point average who meet the following scholarship criteria: academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community/civic involvement, and financial need. Caretenders Scholarship Program-$500-1 Award (Deadline: May 31, 2013): To be considered eligible for the Caretenders Scholarship Program you must: A. Be attending an accredited university, college, trades, or technical school in the fall of 2013. B. In the fall of 2013, you must be attending a school in Canada or the United States.
Coca Cola Scholars Program - "Seniors in high school throughout the United States who meets the eligibility requirements may apply each year for one of 250 four-year, achievement based scholarships."
College JumpStart Scholarship - "The College JumpStart Scholarship is an annual, merit-based competition that is open to 10th-12th grader, college students and non-traditional students. The main requirement is that students are committed to going to school and can express their goals for getting a higher education." The deadline for the competition is April 15, 2012.
COPE Scholarship--This scholarship was established by COPE (Community Outreach Partners for Empowerment) to invest in our future by providing scholarship support to students from the 64130 zip code area seeking educational advancement through a college or university degree. This is a one-time award of $2,500 paid directly to the school. Click on the link for the

Discover Tribute - The Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship Program is sponsored by Discover Financial Services. Since 1991, it has assisted over 5,000 with more than $12 million of scholarship aid.
Dream Scholarship Fund--Any student who has successfully graduated from high school (or within one semester of doing so), does not qualify for in-state tuition, and who intends to seek higher education at a U.S. college or university is eligible for financial assistance from the Dream Scholarship Fund. ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship - This scholarship, named in recognition of Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr., serves underrepresented students pursuing careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. As a former astronaut, physician and businessman, Dr. Harris is an outstanding role model dedicated to serving as a mentor to the scholarship recipients. 2012 Scholarship applications must be postmarked by April 2, 2012.
FIRST Robotics Scholarship--One scholarship awarded annually to a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) or FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) participant in the FIRST Region. Friendship Baptist Church Community Scholarship-Friendship Baptist Church has established a scholarship for a high school senior. The student must be a resident of Kansas City, Missouri with a 64128 zip code. Their goal is to help a deserving young person from our community to further his/her education. Gates Millennium Scholars Program - "The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. Continuing Gates Millennium Scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science."
Healthy Choices Scholarship--$500-1 Award (Deadline: April 30, 2013): To be eligible for the Healthy Choices Scholarship you must: 1. Attending an accredited post-secondary institution by the fall of 2013. 2. A student can be enrolled at any program that is two years in length or longer. 3. Henry W. Bloch Scholarship- Henry W. Bloch, founder of H & R Block, wants to do something to help young people in Kansas City reach their educational and career goals. The H & R Block Foundation has established this special scholarship to help average students get a college education and achieve their dreams. The scholarship will provide you with the opportunity to earn an associate's degree from Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley and the opportunity to go onto the University of Missouri-Kansas City and attain a bachelor's degree. To be eligible, students must:
- have financial need and be Pell eligible
- be a graduating high school senior or have a GED or be a current MCC student with no more than 36 credit hours,
- have a 2.5 minimum GPA,
- plan to attend MCC-Penn Valley, and
- U.S. citizen or resident; currently residing in the Kansas City Public School District service area.

- Aetna Nursing Scholarship--$2,500 for full-time or part-time undergraduate students attending 2 or 4 year HACU member institutions. Students must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and must be pursuing a degree in Nursing.
- Travelers Scholarship--$5,000 for full-time undergraduate students attending 4 year HACU member institutions with a declared major in Accounting, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, General Business, General Management, and Human Resources. Students must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- United Health Foundation/Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Scholarship--$2,000 for full-time undergraduate or graduate students attending 2 or 4 year HACU member institutions with a declared major in Clinical Psychology, Dental Technician, Nursing, (Pre) Optometry, (Pre) Dental, (Pre) Medicine, (Pre) Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Public Health, Mental Health, or Behavioral Health. Students must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Recipients will be required to submit a professional resume and participate in a pre and post scholarships survey.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund -
"Founded in 1975 as a not-for-profit, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's preeminent Latino scholarship organization, providing the Latino community more college scholarships and educational outreach support than any other organization in the country. During the 2007-2008 academic year, HSF awarded almost 4,100 scholarships exceeding $26.7 million. In its 33-year history, HSF has awarded in excess of 86,000 scholarships, worth more than $250 million, to Latinos attending nearly 2,000 colleges and universities in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands."
LM Scholarship Program-$1,000-1 Award (Deadline: May 31, 2013): To be considered eligible for the LM Scholarship Program you must be: Currently enrolled or expect to be enrolled in a degree program (2 years or length or greater) by September. Lawrence A & Nettie H. Jones Scholarship- was created in 2007 to honor the legacies of the late Lawrence A. and Nettie H. Jones, founders of the Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor their collective work ethic, family devotion, and community service through an educational gift of $1,000 to a qualified student. Kansas City, Missouri Opportunities Scholarship Fund - Deadline May 1- A scholarship grant program funded by the Port Authority of Kansas City, Missouri, and area casino gaming operators. The scholarship serves Kansas City, Missouri, young adults ages 17-25 who live in households that have a total annual income of 80% or less of the median income of Kansas City, Missouri, households. Scholarship applicants also must be pursuing educational opportunities at an accredited or certified college, university or vocational/technical school and have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship - The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Beta Omega Chapter has made a tradition of awarding college scholarships to deserving high school graduates in the Kansas City, Metropolitan area. Siplon Family Foundation Scholarship Fund - The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to graduates of a high school in the Kansas City Public School District who intend to further their education at a two-year or four-year college or university. It is our goal to support talented and highly motivated kids who do not have the means to attend college. The students eligible for assistance shall (a) be graduating from a high school in the Kansas City Public School District and enrolling in a two-year or four-year college or university; (b) have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA; (c) demonstrate financial need; and (d) demonstrate a record of community service and extracurricular activities. A minmum of $1,000 annually to be paid in two equal installments for up to four years. Scholarships shall be used for tuition, fees, books, and/or required course expenses. Omicron Xi 2012 Scholarship--The men of Omicron Xi Chapter awards scholarships to deserving African-American males who have established plans to matriculate to an institution of higher learning. The applicant must be an African-American male who is a graduating high school senior in the greater Kansas City area. the applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or above on a 4.0 scale and also demonstrates significant community service beyond what their schools require. Rogers Community Volunteer Scholarship-$500-1 Award (Deadline: June 1, 2013): In order to be eligible for the Rogers Community Volunteer Scholarship Program, you must be attending school on a full-time basis during the fall of 2013 and be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at any level. Additionally, you must have contributed a minimum of 10 hours of non-paid, volunteer service within your community during the last 12 months and have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or greater. Starlight Scholarships - Scholarship for 6th-8th Graders: Since 2006, Starlight and local community leaders Greg and Rebecca Reid have awarded the Vincent Legacy Scholarship. The Reids have also organized a generous $50,000 endowment fund for the scholarship "to provide youth who show performing arts promise the opportunity to further refine and improve their skills through professional instruction, but who otherwise might not be able to secure additional training." This scholarship is available to ethnically diverse youth in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade. The scholarship will pay for up to $2,500 of performing arts instruction for the selected recipient.
