The Kansas City Public Schools Safety & Security Department is a proprietary private security department. The security officers are commissioned security officers with a "Class A" Private Security License. The "Class A" Private Security License provides the Security Officers with Police Powers. The Police Powers are only valid on school district property while conducting school district business.
The purpose of the Safety & Security Department is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, staff, district property and other key stakeholders that are part of the school district. The Safety and Security Department consist of the following positions:
Site Based Officers: The Site Based Officers are assigned to the High Schools and are supervised by a First Line Site Based Supervisor. They are stationary, uniformed and unarmed officers.
Patrol Officers: The Patrol Officers are mobile and operate a marked district security vehicle. The officers patrol throughout the school district 24 hours per day and 365 days per year. They are uniformed and armed officers, supervised by a First Line Patrol Supervisor.
Dispatchers: The dispatcher transmit calls for security services and other service needs to the appropriate department for handling.
