Dr. Vickie Murillo is the Chief Academic and Accountability Officer at Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS), with responsibility, oversight/supervision and budgetary responsibility for Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development, Elementary and Secondary Schools, and educational departments including: Assessment, Adult Education and Literacy, Early Learning, Exceptional Education, Career and Technical Education, Guidance and Counseling, Federal Programs, Language Services, Students in Transition, Early College Academy, A+, Athletics, and Grants and Special Projects. Prior to becoming the Chief Academic and Accountability Officer, Dr. Murillo worked at all levels in education, from teacher and instructional coach to a principal at both the elementary and secondary level. Dr. Murillo also held various positions in administration, providing oversight and direction for Federal Grants and Programs, Athletics, Secondary Schools, and Guidance and Counseling.
Dr. Murillo was a Fellow in the Supes Academy, a Superintendent’s comprehensive leadership development program and a member of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for MSIP 5. She has served as a board member of the Lions Beauty Queens and has also done voluntary work for Sheffield Family Life Center and Independence Youth Athletic Association (IYAA). Dr. Murillo has initiated community programs such as Adopt-A-School.
Under Dr. Murillo’s leadership, oversight has been maintained of over $38 million in Federal grants and programs, two early learning community schools opened, a state of the art Health Center and Culinary Arts Program at Manual Career Technical Center was renovated.
Dr. Murillo received her Doctorate Degree from Baker University in Education Leadership, her Master’s Degree at University of Missouri, Kansas City, and her Bachelor of Education Degree at Evangel. Dr. Murillo lives in Lee’s Summit with her husband, Pastor Willie Murillo. They have two adult children and when not working, Dr. Murillo enjoys attending Chiefs and Royals games and watching her children coach and play basketball.
