Language Assessment & Placement

testing

At the time of enrollment, students who have a language other than English at home are given a language screening test to determine their language level. If the test shows that the student is in need of language services the student will be placed in the appropriate school and program to meet his/her needs. Language support is provided while students receive instruction at their appropriate grade level and are taught the district curriculum.

Language Proficiency Testing

Each year all English language learners are required to take an English Language Proficiency test to measure their progress in English and to help determine their placement level.  This test is federally mandated and issued by the state.  The test (ACCESS) gives a rating in the four areas of English:  reading, writing, speaking and listening.
