SAFETY AND SECURITY

Part of the mission at J. A. Rogers Elementary is to provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff.  With this in mind, all necessary precautions will be implemented.  All exterior doors will be locked during the school day.  To gain entry into the building, visitors will need to come to the front doors and pass through security.  All visitors are then to report to the office to check in and receive a visitor’s badge to wear while in the building.  Visitors must check out in the office before exiting.

Fire and storm drills are conducted periodically during the school year.  It is our hope that these drills will only be for practice; but in the event of a real threat, children must know the procedures to assure their safety.

Acts of violence (child against child, child against adult, and adult against child) will be dealt with in accordance with school district policy, the Student Code of Conduct, the Missouri Safe Schools Act, and with state and local law enforcement.

In the event of a tornado, students and staff will move to safe locations inside the building until the principal is notified that its safe to resume classes.  Outside doors will be locked and visitors will not be admitted until the “all clear” is given.  Students will not be released during an emergency situation.

In the event we must lock down the school to protect students and staff, students will move to safe locations inside the building until the principal is notified that its safe to resume classes.  Outside doors will be locked and visitors will not be admitted until the “all clear” is given.  Students will not be released during an emergency situation.

For the safety of our children, our dismissal procedure is as follows:

No one will be permitted to enter the building between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Our students will be in transition for dismissal.

If your child is a parent pick-up or rides the bus—please go to the Blue Door just to the right of the main entrance.  Teachers will be there to assist you.

We encourage you to call the school by 3:30 p.m. if you need to change how your child gets home.

If your child goes to LINC, you may pick them up at 4:00 p.m. when the building re-opens.
