School starts on Aug. 13, 2012. Here's the basic information you need to know to get the best start to the school year.
The attendance policy has been updated for the 2012-2013 school year to encourage regular attendance and student achievement.
- Grades K-6: A student who misses more than 15 days in the school year may be retained in the same grade
- Grades 7-12: Straight Scheduling - Students may receive failing grades in coursed for which they miss eight (8) days in a school semester.

Schools host back-to-school orientations at various times throughout August to give the students the tools and information they need to start off the school year right. Check the schedule

Students may qualify for free or reduced school meals. Click
here to fill out the application for your household. Students in households getting food stamps, temporary assistance or the food distribution program on Indian reservations can get free meals with a completed application. Other students may qualify for reduced price meals dependent on household income and circumstances.
Current immunization records are required to enroll or register students. Use the guides linked below to determine whether your child needs new or updated immunizations.

The Kansas City Public Schools is proud to announce its roster of principals for the 2012-2013 school year. These individuals will be at the forefront of executing many important objectives, most notably moving KCPS toward accreditation and increased student achievement.
KCPS has partnered with Heart to Heart International and a host of community partners to provide every student in grades K-6 with a free backpack full of school supplies and a personal hygiene kit on the first day of school. The basic KCPS supply list can be found
here, clearly marked with the items that will be in the free backpacks. Individual teachers or schools may request additional items.
Principals decide the uniform policy for the school, but all are based on the
KCPS dress code. Please contact your school if you have any questions about uniforms.
