Kansas City Public Schools offers an array of athletic programs and other activities for our elementary, middle and high school students. The KCPS Athletics Department oversees all of these activities. The department team and coaches are proud of the life lessons that can be taught through participation in KCPS athletics and activities.
Athletics and other activities play an important role in the school system and can have a significant and positive impact on students. These activities are an opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time. Students who participate in these activities can gain many lifelong benefits, including character development, goal-setting skills and valuable relationships.
Athletics and other activities also involve teamwork, discipline, leadership and perseverance. Our mission is to nurture a safe and healthy environment that inspires, supports, develops and promotes ALL students in their pursuit of academic, personal and athletic excellence. Athletic programs and other activities encourage and empower students to become better individuals who are more likely to achieve their dreams.

Head injuries may occur in any of the athletic programs in the Kansas City Public Schools. As such, parents and student-athletes are required to understand the signs and symptoms of concussions and what to do in the case there is one. The MSHSAA Education Series "Know Your Concussion ABC's" packet informs students and parents of the dangers of concussions and the necessary precautions to reduce head injuries. As part of the participation requirements, a written acknowledgment of the education is required prior to a student being allowed participation in any KCPS Athletic Department program. 10-206 MSHAA Concussion Packet PDF
