Since its opening in fall 2011, the KCPS Parent University program has proven an effective means to help parents and families better support their student’s education and obtain important life skills.
Parent University is located at Manual Career Technical Center. The program hosts meetings and activities designed to enhance parent knowledge and skills by providing educational services that parents can use to prepare their students for successful school transitions, promote student academic success as measured by pre- and post-skills assessments, and enrollment. The program also collaborates with KCPS departments and outside community resources to provide parent trainings in the following areas:
Many of the programs are free and open to the public. Parent University is open daily and classes/workshops are ongoing.
“Education begins at home. One of the best ways for parents to help their child learn is to be informed about what happens in the classroom. At Parent University, we work hard to provide programming and information to raise awareness about the importance of teaching and learning, and how families are able to support it” said Linda May, Family Engagement Coordinator.
