For the third consecutive year, the KCPS administration is presenting a comprehensive balanced budget to its Board of Directors. The Board will consider adoption of the $214 million budget during its regular meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the Board of Education building, 1211 McGee St., Kansas City, Mo.
The comprehensive budget consists of the General Fund, Teachers Fund, Operating Capital Projects Fund, and Child Nutritional Service Fund for the period of July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. Estimated total resources (current revenue, fund transfers & fund balance) are $265.5 million, while total projected expenditures are $214.3 million.
Superintendent R. Stephen Green and his team have developed a Fiscal Year 2013 budget that supports transformation and student achievement by placing additional resources where they are needed most, the classroom. The budget was developed using four principles:
- Clarify and prioritize where the money is to be spent
- Align resources (financial and human) to strategy
- Promote teamwork between divisions
- Initiate an “Out of the Box” approach to locating funding sources.
