Kansas City School Board Seeking Individuals to Represent School District on Central City Development Tax Commission

The Kansas City School Board is currently reviewing applications from individuals interested in serving on the Central City Economic Development Sales Tax Commission as the Kansas City Public Schools’ (KCPS) representative. A five-member commission will review and recommend development proposals for the 10-year, one-eighth cent sales tax that was approved by Kansas City voters in April. The commission will have one member appointed by KCPS, one by Jackson County and three members appointed by the Kansas City Mayor and City Council. The term of service will be two years.

The one-eighth-cent sales tax will be used for economic development in an area bounded by Ninth Street to the north, Gregory Boulevard to the south, The Paseo to the west and Indiana Avenue to the east. The tax revenues will provide an estimated $8.6 million a year to support financing, property acquisition and other assistance for developments within the defined central city area.

The selection timeline is as follows:

July 14 Deadline for submission of resumes at 5:00 p.m.
July 17 KCPS Board selects up to five applicants for interviews
July 20 KCPS Board interviews selected applicants, 6-7:30 p.m., KCPS Board of Education, 2901 Troost, Kansas City, MO
