    CFES (College For Every Student)
The College for Every Student Program is to raise the academic aspirations and performance of underserved youth so they prepare for, gain access to, and succeed in college. The program focuses on 3 components: Mentoring, Leadership through Community Service, and Pathways to College. It is a national program aimed at increasing the number of students pursuing college after graduation.

Students were selected based upon their academics. It is the scholars’ responsibility to maintain academics and behavior in order to remain active and participate in CFES.

100 Black Men of Greater KC
King/Weeks Elementary has partnered with the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the national organization, 100 Black Men. Under the leadership of Co-Chairman, Brian Foster, 100 Black Men of Greater Kansas City will implement the organization’s Reading Comprehension Program with our 6th grade boys. The Reading Comprehension Program will allow 6th grade boys the opportunity to receive reading support in a relaxed but structured environment. Students will read aloud and participate in open group discussions where they will feel comfortable asking and answering questions related to topics in the selected book.

G.I.R.L. KC (Gifted, Intelligent, Respectable, Ladies Kansas City)
In an on-going effort to accomplish our School Improvement Plan goals to improve student performance by enabling students to meet their personal, academic, and career goals as well as to increase community involvement, King/Weeks has partnered with GIRL KC. The Gifted Intelligent Respectable Ladies (GIRL) organization along with the Urban League of Kansas City will mentor our 6th grade girls throughout the 2010-2011 school year. The bi-weekly sessions will enhance and develop life skills for our young ladies with a focus on self empowerment, financial education, college and career planning, health and wellness, and community outreach. Girl KC’s curriculum will allow students to set goals and expectations in these areas with steps to achieve them.
