Safe and Welcoming School District
Members of the Kansas City Public Schools Board of Education passed a resolution to ensure that our students and their families feel safe and welcome at KCPS schools. They have unanimously declared their commitment to protecting the legal rights of all students, regardless of immigration status, national original, religion or race, with the Safe and Welcoming School resolution. In the resolution, the board states the following:
...KCPS commits to lawfully protecting our students' confidential information to ensure
that their learning environments are not disrupted by immigration investigative and enforcement actions...
Support for Students, Families
We are committed to providing equitable and inclusive environments where all our students feel safe and socially and emotionally supported. Today, in light of recent events surrounding immigration and refugees, we know some students and families are experiencing increased unease and uncertainty.
In an effort to relieve these concerns, we have a prepared a list of supports that KCPS provides to students, families and educators during periods of trauma and stress. We encourage you to review the list and take advantage of the resources offered.
