The Online Application Process
Q: How do I enroll in a signature school?
To apply to a signature school, you can apply online using your computer, phone, or tablet at EnrollKC.org. You may also enroll using the computer kiosks at the Office of Admissions 2901 Troost.

February 15, 2019
Q: What all is needed to enroll/apply to a signature school?
Required documents to enroll in Kindergarten – 12th Grade:
(Kindergarten must be 5 years old by August 31)
- Birth Certificate
- Student's current immunization record
- Parent/guardian photo ID (Proof of guardianship, if required)
- Two proofs of residency (See “Acceptable Proofs of Residency” list below)
Documents to in enroll for Pre-Kindergarten:
(Head Start, Early Learning and Montessori – Students must be 3 or 4 years old by August 31)
- Enrollment application
- Student's verification of birth (Birth Certificate)
- Student's current immunization record
- Parent/guardian photo ID (Proof of guardianship, if required)
- Two proofs of residency.
- Missouri childcare enrollment form (Click here to download)
- Proof of household income:
- Two current pay stubs
- Current TANF award letter
- Current SSI verification
- Unemployment letter
- Current 1040A tax form with W-2's, (employer letter on company letterhead, notarized letter from employer)
- Child support letter
- Child's insurance/Medicaid card (Head Start - if available)

- Social Services, Social Security Statement, or Other Legal/Court Documents (TANF, SNAP letter)
- Pay stub/Pay check (within 30 days)
- Bank statement (within 30 days)
*Residency Affidavit – Must be notarized (Click here to download) or get a copy at the Office of Admissions 2901 Troost Ave.). If you provide a residency affidavit the Head of Household must provide one item from the Proof of Residency #1 list AND the parent/guardian must provide one item from the proof of residency #2 list in their own name.
Q: Where can my child get testing done for Lincoln Prep?
Testing dates for the 2020-2021 school year will be available soon.
Q: If I have another student at a school, will my other students be given sibling preference?
No, there is no sibling preference, with the exception of pre-k and Montessori programs.
Q: When can my child audition for Paseo Academy?
Paseo auditions can be scheduled in the online application. Click here apply to Paseo.
Q: Will my child still receive transportation?
Resident students who live .5 miles or more from their Neighborhood or Signature school are eligible for transportation. Transportation is free.
Q: How soon can we reapply if my child is not accepted?
If space is available, you can reapply the following semester that your child meets the admission guidelines. If space is not available, you can reapply the following school year during open enrollment.
Q: What if my child was expelled from another school, can we still apply?
Yes. Anyone living in the KCPS boundaries can apply, however students must meet the admission requirements in order to be accepted.
Q: What are the entrance requirements for Signature Schools?
Q: How long does it take to complete the online application process?
Typically, the process should take roughly 15-20 minutes.
Q: What if I do not have access to a computer?
You can submit the application from a mobile device or you can use an enrollment kiosk at the Office of Admissions, 2901 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64109.
Q: Is there another way of submitting an application other than online?
No. The online application system is our preferred method and provides parents with up-to-date information.
Q: Once I've submitted the application electronically, how will I know that the submission is successful?
Once the application is completed online, you will receive a generated message based on the email address you provided when you created an account.
Q: Should I allow anyone else to use my account?
It is the user's responsibility to protect the integrity of any information entered in the system. This includes but is not limited to passwords or personal information about you or your child. You must also agree not to share your login information or password with anyone except a parent or legal guardian.
Q: My account has been disabled because I've attempted to login too many times. Should I set up another account?
No. You must call the KCPS for an administrator to assist you. 816.418.7888.
Q: Can I apply at the school?

Q: When can I apply for Head Start or a Neighborhood Pre-school program?
The application period for Head Start and Neighborhood pre-school programs will open December 4, 2018. You can either apply online using your computer, phone, or tablet at EnrollKC.org. You may also enroll using the computer kiosks at the Office of Admissions 2901 Troost Ave. Kansas City, MO 64109.
Q: My child previously attended an alternative school. What do I do?
You must submit an application for your neighborhood school and include your student’s records from their previous school. Your student’s records and application will be reviewed by the Office of Student Discipline and placed in the proper school.
Q: When will I know if I have been accepted into a Signature School?
Signature school acceptance letters will go out by email by March 15, 2019.
Q: Are students selected based on a first-come, first-serve process?
Yes. However, students applying to our Early Childhood program are selected based on pre-defined criteria (this does not apply to Montessori programs).
Q: How are applicants selected for Pre-K?
We assign seats based on the following priorities:
- 2 - In-Neighborhood Free/Reduced Lunch & Sibling (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 3 - In-Neighborhood Free/Reduced Lunch (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 4 - Out-of-Neighborhood Free/Reduced Lunch & Sibling (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 5 - Out-of-Neighborhood Free/Reduced Lunch (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 6 - In-Neighborhood Full Pay & Attending Sibling (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 7 - In-Neighborhood Full Pay (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 8 - Out-of-Neighborhood Full Pay & Attending Sibling (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 9 - Out-of-Neighborhood Full Pay (grades PreK3-PreK4 only) 10 - General Pool (grades PreK3-PreK4 only)
After June 1st we will assign the remaining seats to students that do not qualify for free/reduced lunch in priority/date & timestamp order.
Q: What if my student is not chosen for the first selection process?
Once the initial emails have been sent to those students who are accepted, parents must accept the seat and/or participate in a screening process. Once vacancies become available, students in the waiting pool will be offered seats using the selection process.
Q: If my student is accepted to attend a Signature school, how do I let the school know I wish to accept the offer?
A selection email will be sent to the Parent/Guardian email provided in the application. The Parent/Guardian must login to their online application account to accept the offer. The deadline to accept Signature school offers is March 29th.
Q: What if I change my mind after my child is accepted?
Please decline the seat on your child's dashboard, or in person at the KCPS Office of Admissions. Include your child's name, date of birth, the school and grade where a seat was offered, and the reason for declining the seat. For currently enrolled KCPS students, if the seat offered is declined the child's school assignment will default to their neighborhood school.
Q: How do I apply to a different school?
If your child has not been accepted to a school requested and you wish to apply for a different school, or you want your child considered for placement to a different school after gaining a seat in a school previously requested, the previous application submitted and wait list/acceptance spot held by that application needs be withdrawn by the Office of Admissions Staff to accommodate the new placement request. This should be done via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. A seat offered via application submitted cannot be held while awaiting consideration for placement into a different school. The previous offered seat/wait list spot must be declined prior to processing any new application submitted.
Q: What if my child is not accepted to his or her first choice?
If you listed more than one choice on your application, and your child is accepted to his or her second or third choice, that school is the school he or she will be eligible to attend for the 2019-2020 school year. His or her name will remain on a waiting list for your higher ranked choices.
Q: Once my child is accepted, do I need to reapply each year?
No (grades K-12). Once your child is accepted, enrolled and attending a Signature or Neighborhood school you do not have to reapply each year, presuming he or she will finish each school year at the same school and continues to meet eligibility criteria where applicable.
Pre-school – All returning pre-school students MUST reapply each year. This includes Montessori programs.
Paseo Academy of Fine and Preforming Arts – 8th graders going to 9th grade will have to audition to enter the 9th grade at Paseo Academy.
Q: My child attends or was accepted into a Signature school, but I want a transfer to a different Signature school next year. What do I do?
You must submit a new application and be accepted on first come first served process. Your child will keep a spot in his or her current school attending until (1) he or she is accepted into the new school and (2) you've accepted placement at the new school.
Q: How do I know which signature school is the best fit for my child?
Only you can decide. Consider your child's interests and abilities, and learn about the school options available to you. Look to contact the schools you are interested in directly for a personal tour and if you wish, contact the school and staff will be happy to answer questions you may have about their specific programs.
