    JROTC Visits Fort Leavenworth

October 9, 2015 JROTC spent the day at the United States Army installation in Leavenworth County, Kansas. Fort Leavenworth was founded in 1827 and was named after Colonel Henry Leavenworth, who died on July 21, 1834 (Image at the top). The JROTC cadets stood in formation in front of the Fort Leavenworth Bowling Center, sounding off in alpha, bravo, and charlie company.

     Charlie Company (Charlie Company)
The cadets went on a scavenger hunt throughout the installation and visited three different places. One of the places visited was the Buffalo Soldier Memorial Park, learning about African-American soldiers who fought in the war in the 18th century, named after Native Americans whom they fought, the Frontier Army Museum, and the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery is located near the Fort Leavenworth Military Reservation. There are 2,554 men and women buried in the cemetery who died serving our country. A few cadets voiced that a few of their family members served in the war and were buried in the cemetery. After visiting the cemetery the bus circled back to the bowling alley to eat and have a good time.
