Lincoln Prep Softball
The Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers won the first softball game in the history of Kansas City Public Schools on September 29 as they defeated the Grandview Bulldogs 26-25. The Lady Blue Tigers were led on the mound by senior pitcher Ingrid Viezcas, who struck out 7 batters in the first 7-inning game played by Lincoln Prep. Freshman shortstop Aniya Byrd recorded corded a pair of outs in the field and hit 4 singles in the game, while sophomore third baseman Jenise Washington recorded three outs in the field and added a pair of singles and a triple at the plate. Lincoln Prep finishes their season this weekend with a tournament at Raytown South High School.
Athlete of the week
McKenzie Carlock, Central
Congratulations to Central High School’s junior running back McKenzie Carlock for being named the Interscholastic League Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Blue Eagles 33-7 Homecoming win over the East Bears on Saturday, October 2. Carlock carried the ball 18 times for 100 yards, while scoring 4 touchdowns on the day, giving Central their first win of the season. Senior quarterback Kweli Hameed added 118 yards rushing on just 15 carries, as he added another touchdown on the ground for the Blue Eagles. Central will try to keep their success going this weekend as they travel to take on the 3-3 University Academy Gryphons Saturday, October 9 at 11:00 a.m. The Blue Eagles end the regular season with another pair of road games against the Lincoln Prep Blue Tigers and the Summit Christian Academy Eagles.
Middle School Update
The LCPA Middle School Blue Tiger volleyball team remains undefeated following two perfect games last week to improve their record to 5-0. Meanwhile, the LCPA Middle School boys soccer team earned a come from behind tie in a hard fought game vs the Northeast Middle School Titans. Also in action, the LCPA Middle School cross country team competed in their first 2-mile race as they competed in the Sock It to Cancer meet.
Northeast Vikings cross country runner Luis Avila cut more than 3 minutes off his previous time as he ran a 22:25 5K and placed 2nd overall at the Wyandotte Meet. The Lady Vikings volleyball team also continued their successful season defeating Southeast 3-1 to remain in 2nd place in the Interscholastic League.
Blue Tigers Roar
And Lincoln Prep football remained undefeated as they defeated Pembroke Hill 45-7 on Friday, Oct. 1. The Blue Tigers were led by junior Zack Shelby who threw TD passes to soph. Alonzo Byrd and senior Michael Henderson, while senior RB Jayden Sudduth rushed for two scores on the ground.
