Get Ready for the First Day of School with KCPS

Questions about the upcoming school year? Ask them at the KCPS Enrollment Fair! District and school employees will be at Manual Career and Technical Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 18, 19 and 20. If you're still looking for a school for your child, we have options for every family. If your student is returning to KCPS, we can help with address verification, before- and after-school care, school-based health services and other resources. We'll see you next week!

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, nearly 100 people attended an informational meeting to learn about the return of athletics to Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts.

KCPS is Bringing Sports Back to Paseo!

KCPS is excited to announce that Paseo Academy students will soon be able to play sports as Pirates! 


“The Department of Athletics is excited to welcome Paseo Academy back to having sports,” KCPS Athletic Director Lee Meyers said. “We’ll be offering volleyball, soccer, basketball, cross country and track this year.” Continue reading ...

KCPS continued its celebration of the Class of 2022 with Summer Middle College Commencement on Thursday, June 28, 2022, and Summer Academy Commencement on Thursday, July 7, 2022.


$2,000 Signing Bonus for KCPS Bus Drivers

Kansas City Public Schools continues to actively recruit school bus drivers. The district needs 145 bus drivers to be fully staffed, and so far, they have 110.


"We started back in May, this active recruiting model, and even if we get to 100% strength, we're gonna continue to recruit because we either lose drivers or people may not make it through the CDL process, or somebody may offer a higher incentive than what we offer," KCPS Director of Transportation Chris Walls said. Continue reading on KSHB's website ...


Dr. Derald Davis Named Deputy Superintendent

DrDeraldDavis-BENCHMARK2.pngDr. Derald Davis, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, has been employed with Kansas City Public Schools for 27 years and has demonstrated substantial commitment to the success of students. Dr. Davis was named Interim Deputy Superintendent and Chief Equity Officer in July 2022. Dr. Davis’ departmental oversight includes School Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Student Support, Research and Accountability, and Equity, Inclusion and Innovation.


Prior to his appointment as Interim Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Davis served as the Assistant Superintendent of Equity, Inclusion and Innovation and led the development and advancement of programs that enhance the values of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout the school system. In this capacity, he led the district’s Equity Steering Committee, facilitated professional development for staff at all levels of the organization on implicit bias and other equity-focused topics and worked with leaders to strengthen capacity to foster equitable, inclusive and anti-racist learning environments. Continue reading ...




Help KCPS Students Learn Cybersecurity Skills

Are you a cybersecurity or information technology professional? This fall, KCPS middle and high schoolers will be joining students across the globe for the 2022 Space Grand Challenge. This event, part of our partnership with the California Cybersecurity Institute at Cal Poly, uses gamification and Esports to help prepare students for future careers in the cyber, tech and space industries.
