School Site Details

On May 15th, KCPS, in partnership with the Blue Valley Neighborhood Association, held a community meeting to discuss reuse of the former Askew School. The joint development team, Parker Communities LLC and Petra LLC, shared a proposal to repurpose the building for senior housing. The plan for adaptive reuse of the historic school includes 59 units, with a mix of studio, one, and two-bedrooms. Please review the proposal and meeting notes/Q&A posted below.

Based upon the positive feedback received from neighbors, the KCPS Board of Directors approved a sales contract in December 2025. The development team will be applying for a 4% LIHTC (Low Income Housing Tax Credit) allocation in March 2026. If successful, they will subsequently seek historic tax credits in the summer. 2017 - Hope City submitted a proposal for a church and prayer ministry in the Askew School to expand its services. KCPS and Blue Valley Neighborhood Association hosted a reuse proposal presentation on Thursday, November 2, 2017. KCPS did not take formal action on the proposal as community feedback was mixed. KCPS staff was working with Hope City to see if the proposal could be modified to address some of the community concerns. During this time, Hope City purchased the building it had been leasing, and discussions ended between KCPS/Hope City.
