Franklin School

KCPS is finalizing interior renovations of the Franklin school site into offices for the KCPS operations department, including members of the facilities and security teams. KCPS is also finalizing a landscaping/screening plan for the site in advance of a request to renew its Special Use Permit for the site. Prior to requesting City approval of the Special Use Permit in Fall 2023, KCPS will host a public meeting(s) and work with representatives of the Ivanhoe and Boston Heights-Mt. Hope neighborhoods to review the proposed landscaping/screening plan and discuss how to best accommodate the community use of the building. Meeting details will be posted.

ARCHIVE:

On May 8, 2018, the Board of Zoning Adjustment approved a special use permit to allow for 1) the KCPS operations department to relocate to Franklin; and 2) community center use of the building. The City identified several conditions for the special use permit. These include: KCPS will need to submit a landscape plan that shows how vehicle storage will be screened; KCPS will need to submit verification of site distance for new curb cuts related to the parking areas; and KCPS will need to obtain a certificate of occupancy for the proposed change in use.

KCPS presented preliminary reuse plans to members of the community at two public meetings:

Saturday, March 24, 2018 @ 2PM - Ivanhoe neighborhood meeting, 3700 Highland

Saturday, April 14, 2018 @ 4PM - Boston Heights-Mt. Hope neighborhood meeting, Central Patrol Station
