KCPS transferred the site to the City of Kansas City, Missouri in December 2016 as the site falls within one the City Housing Department’s targeted areas for housing development. At the request of the Blue Hills Neighborhood Association, the City completed demolition of the school in 2018.

After working with the Blue Hills neighborhood on a reuse plan for the site, the City issued an RFP and selected Missouri Housing Partners to redevelop the site. Fulson was awarded 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) in Winter 2022 and a RebuildKC grant in Summer 2022. In Spring/Summer 2023, Missouri Housing Partners is preparing to submit a rezoning application, which is required before building permits can be issued.
