KCPS and Partners Providing Free COVID-19 Testing

Kansas City Public Schools is partnering with the Mid-America Regional Council, KC Cares, Samuel U. Rogers Health Center and Swope Health to offer no-cost COVID-19 testing for KCPS staff, students, families and community members.

Lincoln Middle Debate Takes Tourney Title

The Lincoln Middle School debate team successfully made the case for being among the best in the region with a first-place finish in the DEBATE Kansas City (DKC) tournament held virtually on Thursday evening, Dec.3.

Early College Academy Info Session

The KCPS Early College Academy is hosting an informational session about the program, eligibility requirements and the submission process. High school sophomores who are interested in this option should plan to attend this virtual meeting with their parents or guardians.

KCPS Hosting Two 'School Board School' Sessions in December

The Kansas City Public Schools Board of Directors (school board) will be hosting two “School Board School” virtual sessions for anyone interested in school board service. These sessions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Newcomer Family and Community Engagement and Support

The Office of Newcomer Family and Community Engagement and Support promotes the educational success of ELs by facilitating inclusion, engagement and support of linguistically diverse students and families.

Our five Family and Community Liaisons act as cultural brokers between EL families and schools in addition to being interpreters and translators.  Services are provided in Somali, Spanish, Karen, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, French, Kirundi and Kinyamulenge. The Newcomer and Migrant Social Worker provides social-emotional support and wrap-around services to EL students and their families.  Services are primarily available to immigrant and refugee students who have lived in the US less than 5 years. 

Additionally, the Office:

  • Supports identification and enrollment of ELs
  • Collaborates with community partners
  • Provides crisis intervention and support
  • Manages Title 1c Migrant Education services
