Jostna Dash teaches 10th grade English and 10th grade Advanced English at East High School. She currently serves as the English Co-Department Chair. She started working at East in 2014 as a Teach Form America Corp Member. In her time at East, she founded East’s first ever Poetry Team in 2015 and sponsored Culture Club. This year she Co-Sponsors the Interact Club in conjunction with Rotary International.
Jostna received her Bachelors of Arts in Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in International studies from the University of Iowa in May 2014. In July 2016, she received her Master of Education in Secondary English from University of Missouri-St. Louis. She is a certified Pre-AP teacher as well. Jostna aspires to move into administration one day. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Kevin Pluss started working at East during the 2015-2016 school year. During his time at East, Kevin has acted as Special Education Department Chair, Director of Tutoring Services, Founder of Robotics club and Founder of Video Game Creation club. He is a 2014 Teach For America-Kansas City Corps Member, a 2016 Leading Educators Fellow, and a 2016 Teach For America Exploring Computer Science Fellow.
Kevin received his Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's of Education in Special Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In his free time, Kevin enjoys spending time with his friends and family, as well as traveling and watching sports.
Elizabeth Marentes has been employed by the Kansas City Public School District since 2006. In her time with the district, she has taught 5-9 Science, 7th grade English & Physics First. She has served as an Instructional Coach, A+ coordinator & Health Sciences Academy Coordinator. Mrs. Marentes has been at East since 2012, and has served as the senior sponsor & professional development chair since beginning her tenure here.
Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education from the University of Central Missouri. She earned her Master’s in School Leadership from Baker University in 2010. She earned her second Master’s in Teaching English as a Second Language from Webster University in 2014. She is certified English & Science grades 5-9, and General Science grades 9-12. She is also certified as a principal grades K-12. Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her husband & three young children.
Ben Richardson began teaching at East High School in the 2012-2013 school year. Since 2012, he has been an American Government teacher, assistant varsity and jv boys soccer coach, and head coach of the girls varsity and jv soccer teams. For the past three years he has also been the Social Studies department chair.
Mr. Richardson graduated from Milligan College (TN) with a bachelor's of arts degree in History and Secondary Education. He will have completed his master's degree in Secondary School Leadership from the University of Kansas in the Spring of 2017. He is proud to be an East Bear and is committed to seeing East High School students represent the Kansas City Public Schools with distinction.
Andrew Killen stated working at East High School in 2009. In his time with the district, he has served as Building Mathematics Chair, District Curriculum Writer, Summer School Dean of Students, Co-Founder Bicycle Club and Co-Founder of Agriculture Club. He is also 2009 Teach For America Corp Member.
Andrew received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics and Master of Education from Rockhurst University. He is certified in Mathematics grades 5-12 and Agriculture K-12 in the state of Missouri. Andrew is also a League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructor. In his free time, he enjoys bicycling, gardening, and spending time with his wife.
