The Church of the Resurrection, a community partner, provides backpacks full of nutritious, kid-friendly food to children in the extreme poverty category in the Troost Elementary area. These children have been identified as being at great risk of going hungry over the weekend. Every Friday, volunteers fill these identical backpacks with non-perishable snack items and deliver them to the school where staff members distribute them to the identified individuals. The children take the backpacks home over the weekend and bring them back on Monday, at which time volunteers pick them up, clean them out, and get them ready for the next weekend.
