Enrollment Definitions, Steps, Dates and Important Changes

DEFINITIONS:

  • Enrollment: The actions a student who is not currently enrolled in KCPS performs to enter the school system. Any student living in boundaries are accepted to their neighborhood school.
  • Activation: The process an enrolled KCPS family performs to activate their Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
  • Application: The act or process enrolled KCPS students perform to apply for a KCPS Signature School and other programs. Application does not guarantee admittance.
  • Admission: The act or process KCPS per-forms to admit students who have applied to a KCPS Signature School or program.
  • Registration: The process an enrolled KCPS student performs to formally accept their seat for the next school year by entering in mandatory information.

NEW STUDENTS

STEPS TO ENROLL:

  1. ENROLL – KCPS has reduced the amount of initial information on the enrollment form to make the process fast and simple.
  2. ACTIVATION – Acceptance notifications and Infinite Campus Parent Code are sent to families after they enroll so families can Activate their account before Applying.
  3. APPLY – All enrolled students can apply for admittance to KCPS Signature Schools or other programs through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
  4. ADMIT – Students are notified of admission status within two (2) business days of applying.*
  5. REGISTRATION – New Students formally accept their seat by entering in ALL mandatory information into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

*For some schools, final admission status is not determined until after an Audition or Lottery.

CURRENT STUDENTS

STEPS TO APPLY:

  1. ACTIVATION – If not already completed, activate your In-finite Campus Parent Portal. (For more information about Infinite Campus, visit KCPublicSchools.org/Infinite-Campus)
  2. APPLY – Log into Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Go to More > School Choice. Click the “Schools” and “Programs” you want to apply to. Click “Complete”.
  3. ADMIT – Students are notified of admission status within two (2) business days of applying.*
  4. REGISTRATION – Current Students formally accept their seat by updating mandatory information in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and clicking “Accept”.

*For some schools, final admission status is not determined until after an Audition or Lottery.

Important Dates for 2022-2023 Enrollment

POLICY CHANGES SY2022-2023:

  1. Updated Proof of Residency Policy: One (1) proof of residency required
  2. Updated Enrollment Policy for Employees living outside district boundaries: Not allowed to take seat away from student living in district boundaries. (Not allowed to enroll in school with waiting list)
  3. Updated Paseo Academy Audition Policy: Return to admin policy process and requirements for entry into Paseo (Was paused last year due to COVID)
  4. New Carver to Paseo Middle Pilot Program: Carver sixth graders receive automatic admission into the new pilot bilingual program at Paseo
  5. Updated Lincoln College Prep Admission Policy: Continued pause to 60/60 testing policy due to the inequity of standardized test that have not been normed after COVID
  6. Updated Signature Application process for current KCPS students: Current students only need Apply in Infinite Campus Parent Portal
  7. New Infinite Campus Parent Portal Activation Campaign: Families must activate account in Infinite Campus Parent Portal to Apply for Signature Schools.
