Applying to a Signature School

If your child is already enrolled in a KCPS school and you'd like to apply for a signature school, follow these steps:

1. Log in to the Parent Portal
   Use your existing username and password.

2. Navigate to School Choice
   In the left-hand menu, select:
   More > School Choice

3. Rank Your Signature School Preferences
   Choose signature schools and rank in order of preference.

4. Submit Your Application
   Click “Submit” to complete the process.

5. Monitor Your Submission
   At the bottom of the page, you’ll see the status of your application.
   While your application is being reviewed for eligibility, it will appear as “Currently Unavailable.”

What Happens Next?

Confirmation Email
After submitting your registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email.

Application Review
Our Admissions Team will review your application. If additional information is needed, we’ll contact you directly.

Eligibility Review
Applications are then forwarded to the school for review.

The school registrar will notify you of the final decision, which will be one of the following:

• Eligible for Lottery
• Pending (awaiting additional information or review)
• Denied

Lottery & Notification

If your student is eligible they will be entered into the lottery.

• Families will be notified of the lottery results once the selection process is complete.
• If your student received a seat, you will receive instructions on how to accept the seat by the deadline.
• If your student did not receive a seat, they will be placed on the waitlist.
