KCPS Loves to Read
KCPS is Excited to Launch the KCPS Loves to Read Initiative
KCPS Loves to Read is a reading campaign designed to connect literacy and social-emotional learning to motivate students to read. Each month, our students will build on important social-emotional skills and character traits that will develop them as readers and leaders in their community.
Check out the tips, activities and resources on this page to support your student’s reading and social emotional development.
Stop and Read with KCPS
Beginning Wednesday, September 7, and continuing the first Wednesday of each month, KCPS will “stop and read” for 15 minutes across the district. Every employee and student is encouraged to participate, and we want to invite the KC community to join us, too! Simply follow these steps:
- Grab your favorite reading material
- Read from 10:00-10:15am
- Show us YOU love to read by snapping a photo and sharing! Tag #kcpslovestoread on social media or email us with the subject “KCPS Loves to Read.”
- Join us each month: Sept. 7, Oct. 5, Nov. 2, Dec. 7, Jan. 4, Feb. 1, Mar. 1, Apr. 5, May 3
TUNE INTO MONTHLY READ ALOUDS
On the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, we will feature guest readers from the district and Kansas City community reading one of their favorite books. Tune in on January 4th and 18th at 7:00pm on Facebook Live.
