KCPS WEEKLY NEWS

COVID-19 Discussion from the July Board of Directors Meeting

Last night at the Board of Directors meeting, our COVID-19 response team discussed potential mitigation recommendations for the start of school in August. As we welcome our students and families in person on August 23, it will be important to continue COVID mitigation strategies throughout our schools and facilities.

We are currently reviewing guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Kansas City Health Department and our Children's Mercy Hospital partners. We expect to share updated recommendations and policies in early August. This can include masking for both vaccinated and unvaccinated students, staff and guests, among other strategies. For an overview of the potential recommendations and our current testing protocols and vaccination opportunities, please review our Board presentation here

Students still in possession of their device from the 2020-21 school year can return it during next week's Enrollment Fair at Manual Career and Technical Center. Devices that are not returned will be disabled on July 23. Students may also return devices to the IT Department located at the Board of Education Office, 2901 Troost Ave. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Thank you for your help getting our devices back for fall.

Mark Your Calendars for Back to School

Summerfest 2021 will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at East High School, 1924 Van Brunt Blvd. The Kansas City Public Schools Education Foundation is partnering with public health providers to ensure that our students are ready to engage in learning when classes start on August 23. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we’re going to stay safe by hosting “Summerfest: Drive Thru Edition!”
