East Student's Artwork Displayed at U.S. Capitol

In Cannon Tunnel, one of the underground passageways used by members of Congress to move quickly through Capitol Hill, hangs a black-and-white portrait of a Congolese mother and her child.


The artist, Basimise Fabrice, is a rising junior at East High School. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s staff selected Basimise’s artwork to represent Missouri’s 5th District in the Congressional Art Competition. Kansas City Students Explore Different Careers This Summer, from Kauffman Stadium to Utilities

Some 50 students from Kansas City Public Schools are spending summer school exploring different careers in the classroom and out.

The district is offering a career exploration program as part of its summer academy at the Manual Career and Technical Center. High school students are exploring different career paths at the center, on field trips and by meeting local professionals. Continue reading on KCUR ... 



Save the Date! Enrollment Fair is July 18-20

Do you know someone looking for a great school for their child? The KCPS Enrollment Fair will be July 18-20! This is a chance for current and considering KCPS families to meet school staff before the 2022-23 school year. From neighborhood schools to Montessori, Head Start to Evening Academy, we have options for every family! We hope you will join KCPS and our community partners July 18-20 at Manual Career and Technical Center. Stop by any time between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.


Already enrolled? You will be getting a call soon from your child's school to verify your address. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have before the first day of school in August!

KCPS Won't Change Start Times for 2022-23

After careful consideration, KCPS will keep all school and program start times the same for the 2022-23 school year. Bell times are as follows:

  • Tier 1 (7:20 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.): Central High School, East High School, Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, Lincoln Middle School, Northeast High School, Paseo Academy and Southeast High School
  • Tier 2 (8:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.): Border Star Montessori, Central Middle School, Garfield Elementary, Gladstone Elementary, Hartman Elementary, Holliday Montessori, King Elementary, James Elementary, Longfellow Elementary, Northeast Middle, Pitcher Elementary, Primitivo Garcia Elementary, Trailwoods Elementary, Troost Elementary and Whittier Elementary

  • Tier 3 (9:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.): African-Centered College Prep Lower Campus, Banneker Elementary, Carver Elementary, Hale Cook Elementary, Faxon Elementary, Foreign Language Academy, Rogers Elementary, Melcher Elementary, Phillis Wheatley Elementary, Success Academy at Knotts, Wendell Phillips Elementary

  • Special programs (8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.): Richardson Early Learning Center, Woodland Early Learning Center, Success Academy at Anderson

LINC provides high-quality before- and after-school care at KCPS elementary schools. This service is available from 7 a.m. until classes start and from the end of school until 6 p.m. Enrollment will be handled by LINC coordinators at each site. Learn more at
