KCPS Board of Directors Seeking Applicants for Retirement System Trustees

The Kansas City Public Schools Board of Directors is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as a representative to the KCPS Retirement System Board of Trustees.

The KCPS Board of Directors will select a representative to serve the four (4) year term (Jan. 1, 2023 to December 2026) to the Kansas City Public Schools Retirement System Board of Trustees. The provisions of Section 169.291, subsection 1 of the Missouri Revised Statues read as follows:

“1. The general administration and the responsibility for the proper operation of the retirement system are hereby vested in a board of trustees of twelve persons who shall be resident taxpayers of the school district as follows:

(1) Four trustees to be appointed for terms of four years by the board of education; provided, however, that the terms of office of the first four trustees so appointed shall begin immediately upon their appointment and shall expire one, two, three and four years from the date the retirement system becomes operative, respectively;”

The KCPSRS Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring the Retirement System is appropriately governed and managed with the goal of protecting Fund assets; creating and maintaining an atmosphere that encourages frank and collegial discussions between the Board and management; and establishing and communicating Board policies and priorities and monitoring performance.

Each Board Member acts as a fiduciary of the Retirement System and attends regular meetings of the Board of Trustees normally held 4-6 p.m. the first Monday of each month; and completes at least six hours of Board education each year.

Individuals interested in serving on the KCPSRS Board of Trustees can submit their names for consideration by sending a resume or background statement with complete contact information to: Office of Board Services, 2901 Troost Avenue, Room 202, Kansas City MO 64109, or by emailing board@kcpublicschools.org.
