Congratulations are in order for Mr. Kevin Hogan! Last week, Mr. Hogan was randomly chosen to win a free two-year lease at Two Light Luxury Apartments as a part of the Kansas City Power & Light District partnership with KCPSEF.

On Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, KCPS Administration shared revised Blueprint 2030 recommendations with the Board. These recommendations are based on feedback received from our students, staff, families and community this fall and will help move us toward our goal of enhancing the student experience in KCPS.

The recommendations are as follows:

  • KCPS will continue operating 35 of 37 schools.

  • KCPS will close two schools, Longfellow Elementary and Troost Elementary, at the end of the current (2022-23) school year.

  • KCPS will pursue a General Obligation Bond in Spring 2024.

  • KCPS will revisit additional facility recommendations after further engagement and a bond vote.

For now, these are recommendations — the Board is scheduled to vote on Wednesday, Jan. 25. If these recommendations are accepted, KCPS Transition Teams will work closely with students, families and staff at impacted schools to help them feel welcome at their new schools. We will be hosting school tours, enrollment days/nights and families to make this process easier for our students.

These are tough conversations to have as a district and a community. Thank you for choosing KCPS. Let’s move forward together.
