Swinney School in the West Plaza neighborhood reopened in 2016 as 33-unit apartment complex. The apartments have many of the features of the old school, such as chalkboards, wood trim and the gymnasium floor.
National Honors for KCPS Repurposing Initiative
KCPS has been recognized with a Planning Excellence Award from the American Planning Association for its work to find new uses for old school sites.
