Students to Gain Life Skills Thanks to New Partnership with CommunityAmerica Credit Union

Kansas City, October 12, 2020:  Kansas City Public Schools and CommunityAmerica Credit Union are teaming up to give students a boost with a new series of life skills seminars.

This four-week series of videos will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Participants will hear from local leaders about the art of confidence, get tips for starting strong in college and their careers, learn about financial literacy, and take away advice for thriving in the workplace.

The life skills seminars are part of the KCPS Real World Learning initiative that is overseen by Crystal Everett.

“Our goal is to prepare our students for life after high school,” Everett said. “We very grateful for CommunityAmerica Credit Union for stepping up to partner with us to provide this opportunity for our students.”

The seminar series is free, but students do need to register by visiting communityamerica.com/life-skills-series. A link to each pre-recorded video will be emailed weekly to participants. As an incentive, students who view all of the seminar videos and complete exit tickets for each one will receive a $25 gift card and be entered to win more prizes from CommunityAmerica.

KCPS and CommunityAmerica are also producing one special episode of this life skills seminar series for parents and guardians. Airing at 6 p.m. on Nov. 17, this episode will feature highlights from the student sessions and remarks from Superintendent Mark Bedell, prominent local attorney Robyn Bedell (Dr. Bedell’s wife), and CommunityAmerica Chief Executive Officer Lisa Ginter.
