Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER)
KCPS leadership worked collaboratively to meet the intent of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) allocations provided. The federal program guidance indicated that the funds should prevent, respond to and recover from the implications of Covid-19.
Allowable and unallowable expenditures were provided in the guidance, with an emphasis on innovative methods of accelerating learning for students, providing needed technology and resources for classrooms, and addressing needs of older school building structures to assure safe learning environments. KCPS focused on an equitable approach to using these funds by providing additional supports for teaching and learning through the opening of a night school, virtual learning options, tiered school-based funds and building level resource enhancement. For safe buildings, investments are being made in PPE, addition of hydration stations, and air quality/air system enhancements.
The following images highlight how KCPS is using our funds.
