Primitivo Garcia, a Mexican immigrant and student at Westport High School, selflessly protected a pregnant teacher from an attack outside of his high school. During this intervention, Primitivo was critically wounded and eventually passed away. In his honor, we remember his heroism through the dedication of Primitivo Garcia Elementary.
Previously, Westport High School Awarded the Primitivo Garcia Courage Award to a student who embodied Primitivo's spirit. To honor his legacy, Kansas City Public Schools is encouraging KCPS high schools to nominate at minimum two seniors who best embody bravery, selflessness, community impact, spiration to others, character, and empathy. The winner will be announced at their graduation.
