We're happy to share the progress being made on the all-new King Empowerment Campus! This project is beyond the halfway point, with an opening date set for early 2027.
The campus will be home to Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, an early-learning center, and a family resource center all in one.
Each wing has been thoughtfully designed with the needs of students today and for many years to come taken into consideration.

The bottom floor features green paint and tree-like elements to represent a forest atmosphere. The top floor features blue paint with space and sky-like elements to represent being up above the tree cover.
In one hallways, a sensory wall made up of differently textured tiles takes the developmental needs and interests of KCPS' youngest students into account.
